Programs

All programs at Treetops-in-the-Forest are based on the mission of the 501(c)3 non-profit (A.L.E) to provide each participant those experiences through which awareness of the impact of his or her choices and actions on present and future environments will be acquired.

Programs for Parents and Young Children

TTT - Treetops Tiny Tots, a parent-education program based on Richard Louv's Last Child in The Woods, encouraging nature experiences during infancy.

A Day in the Woods, for preschool children and their parents or grandparents to spend a day at Treetops-in-the-Forest exploring the natural world together.

Programs for School Groups

Weeklong in-residence sessions for organized groups from public*, private, charter, and Montessori Erdkinders on a range of environmental topics related to the humanities. Maximum group size is 24-25 children, plus one teacher/sponsor per 4-5 children. (* The curriculum for public schools includes TAKS/TEKS correlated content.)

Programs for Special Focus Groups

Sessions may be scheduled by request for Talented and Gifted, Academic Decathlon, Ap Environmental Science, Texas History and Folklore, Culinary Arts, Entrepreneurship, Creative Arts, Habitats in Literature, Math and Science, Sustainability, Global Awareness, et al. Minimum group size is 12 students.

Programs for Spring and Summer Breaks

Individual students may enroll for Spring and Summer sessions. Students returning to the campus receive a $50 scholarship toward the $175 tuition. Dates are subject to the wide variation in school calendars. Minimum of 12 students. Please see the calendar at the bottom of this page for currently scheduled programs.

2008 Calendar

Ongoing Programs Organized school groups are invited to book their own four to six day stay. Call to select dates and topics. Rates per child are $75 (4 day) or $125 (6 day).

Note:
* Summer tuition is $175 for 1st child, $125 for siblings
Teacher Workshops August is set aside for individual teacher studies toward SBOE credits, as well as staff retreats and scheduled workshops.
August 2-3* Charlie the Choirboy is Back! Teaching non-musical teachers how to use Orff, Kodaly, and Laban for a lifetime full of music. Note: $40 tuition. Includes overnight lodging, meals, and resources.
August 9-10* Children of the World. Ways of making inter-global studies a part of every child's living and learning. Note: $40 tuition. Includes overnight lodging, meals, and resources.
Yellow Brick Road Screening A fun way to assess motor, visual, auditory, and language skills in four to six year-olds. Seeks to identify how each child learns best.
August 15 Training Session. 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM. For teachers, parents, and volunteers. (Free)
August 16 Screening Session. 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM. For trainers and the children. $10 per child.
